The whole Avalon concept came about as a result of a fascination I acquired with all things Arthurian while I lived in Britain for 2 1/2 years. When I wasn't going to guitar shows and checking out the music scene in London or hangin' out in Soho, I spent a good deal of my time visiting sites associated with Arthurian history & legend, such as Glastonbury, Barbury castle near Swindon, et al.
It was interesting to learn that not only are there many versions of the "romantic" legends surrounding King Arthur (Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin, etc.), but more interesting to me was studying the actual historical figure of a circa 6th century Celtic warrior-king. Of course, the two overlap quite frequently, especially in regards to the infamous "Holy Grail." I tried to incorporate both into my musical musings.
The title "The King Will Come Again" is a reference to the legend that Arthur did not really die, but was transported to the mystical Island of Avalon. Legend has it that he will return one day when his beloved Britain needs him again.

To The Light We Run is a love song from Arthur to Guinevere. Love is, of course, the focus of many renditions of this legend, as it is in life itself..., so its a natural thing. |

Just A Man is an anachronistic soliloquy that points to the resignation we all sometimes feel when fate deals us a bad hand. As true today as it was then, I imagine Arthur felt this way quite often as he tried to unite the peoples of Britain against a common foe. |

The Night is about the mystical struggle between the Druid/sorcerer Merlin and his legendary arch-rival Morgan Le Fay. |

My favourite is Victory at Mount Badon because of the visual imagery that I think the music conjures. The battle of Badon Hill remains Arthur's greatest victory (whether historical or allegorical) in his life-long crusade to stem the tide of marauding Saxon invaders. |
